Tenley View
Washington, DC
Tenley View was DC’s first residential project to earn approval for a car-free site.
The apartment community has no parking spaces and residents are not eligible to receive neighborhood parking permits. This approach was driven by the development’s proximity to multiple public transit lines and alternative transportation services. The high-visibility location at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Brandywine Street required a distinctive architectural statement. The façade of a one-story, concrete frame building that existed on the site was removed, and the design team created an energetic new exterior with terra cotta, brick, metal panels, and glass. The original 1950s-era structure – a vacant commercial retail property – was reinforced to support five stories of residential units above and 19,000 SF of retail space over the ground and lower levels.
